Paykio

PayPal sees your card. We don't.

Paykio collects a payment and sends a key. Your card number is the most sensitive part of that. By design, it never touches our systems.

At a glance

Your card number

You enter it in PayPal's own checkout window. It goes directly to PayPal.

Paykio never receives it, never stores it, and never puts it in an e-mail.

What PayPal shares with us

A yes or no on the payment, and the amount collected.

No card number, no security code, no bank name.

What we keep

The order record: item, price, date, reference, and the e-mail that got the key.

No passwords. There are no accounts, so there is nothing to protect with one.

In more detail

You pay on PayPal's side

PayPal is a widely used payment processor. It is the one allowed to hold card numbers. When you press pay on our payment page, PayPal's own checkout window opens. There you can use your PayPal balance or any credit or debit card (no PayPal account needed). We send PayPal an amount and a currency. It sends back yes or no. Since we never have your number, we can never lose it.

Why links run out

Each link covers one order. It lasts fifteen minutes and takes one payment. So an old tab, a link shared in a chat or a page your browser restores cannot be paid again. If your link runs out, you have not been charged. Return to the store and start over.

Refreshing the page does not use up the link. Only pressing pay does. If your card is declined, you can try another card or payment method on the same payment. No second payment is opened.

Everything comes from this site

Every page is sent over HTTPS, and your browser is told to reject anything that is not. Fonts, styles and scripts all load from this site. The one exception is PayPal's checkout, which only the payment page uses. No page has ad tags, trackers or third-party analytics.

Cookies and browser storage

Paykio has no cookies of its own. The payment page saves one item in your browser's session storage: the ID of the payment you started. It lets you retry after a decline without opening a new payment. Closing the tab clears it. Your light or dark theme choice also stays in your browser and is never sent to us. PayPal's checkout uses its own cookies to spot fraud.

Other parties

PayPal takes the payment and keeps its own record, under its own privacy policy. An e-mail provider delivers your key. A hosting provider runs our servers. No one else sees your order. We never sell your data or use it for ads.

How long we keep orders

We keep an order for as long as the law says accounting records must be kept. Then we delete it. You can ask to see your data, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted when the law does not make us keep it. To prove it is you, write from your checkout e-mail or give the order reference.

Spot something odd?

Maybe it is a charge you do not know, a page that looks different from this one, or an e-mail asking for your card number. Let us know at [email protected]. We will never ask for card details by e-mail. Paykio has no accounts, so any request to log in to one is not from us.

For the formal wording of all this, see the privacy notice. What you are buying is covered in the terms of sale.
